Marvel’s Moon Knight, Ep 5, and the Theory of Everything

“The healing ended up being a curse.”

That’s what Marc said about his super powers in episode 5 of Moon Knight. What took the pain away ended up prolonging it. Sound familiar?

Like drowning your sorrows in alcohol, or putting a bandaid on a gunshot wound, bleeding out is inevitable. The pain will push its way through your pores. The numbness wears off and you’re down past square one, into negative numbers. Have you ever seen negative anything? And don’t give me that dark matter nonsense — that’s just a shadow.

Like the shadow Steven sees in Marc, and Marc in Steven. Each made the other up to protect himself. Each one feels like a victim and a hero. They are the epitome of codependency - unable to survive without each other because they are just two parts of the same thing.

None of us will last long if we let the magician slice us in half, but we never get put back together. Humpty Dumpty found that out the hard way.

Taweret (The Great One,) the Egyptian Goddess who protects women during pregnancy and childbirth, is Marc/Steven’s guide through the asylum/white room/death/heaven/Theta (resurrection) brain waves.

That white room is like the timeless place you go when you’re under anesthesia. You don’t know if you’ve slept…
