I’m obsessed with this celebrity trial

I don’t know pop culture anymore. I used to watch Entertainment Tonight religiously as a kid. Now, my ten-year-old daughter has to fill me in on the names of artists. She tells me who sings songs I’ve never heard before, but she already knows all the words to.

But I have to admit, I’m fascinated by the Sean “Diddy” Combs case. The music impresario’s racketeering trial has me on the edge of my seat. My YouTube feed is filled with way too much Puff Daddy news. I’m embarrassed that the algorithm knows my habits.

The crimes Combs is accused of are heinous. From kidnapping to arson, forced labor, and sex trafficking, the rap mogul faces the possibility of life in prison. This was after a thirty-year run of celebrity that saw him allegedly reach billionaire status.

Comb’s father was a street gangster who was gunned down. This left Diddy to grow up with his mother, Janis. According to an article in Rolling Stone Magazine, “He was around all types of alcohol; he was around reefer smoke. Drug addicts around, lesbians around, homosexuals, he was around pimps, pushers. That was just who was in our house. People that attended the parties were from Harlem, from the streets. It wouldn’t be a thing to mistakenly walk into one of the bedrooms and you got a couple in there, butt naked.”
